DETROIT — Chrysler Corp. is investing millions of dollars in new steel parts stamping and fabrication equipment at its Warren, Mich., plant that should result in more steel throughput.

The equipment includes two new tandem lines of stamping presses that should be able to process more than 72,000 tons of steel per year, generally for truck body panels, Chrysler sources said.

The new machinery will continue an upgrading program started several years ago and expand the capabilities of the plant for what Chrysler officials believe will be increased demand for the company’s light-duty trucks in the mid-1990s.
